AoC is the most recent game from Funcom, the creator of previous games such as Anarchy Online.

500,000 dedicated gamers signed up for Age of Conan's test phase, an achievement which could not be dreamed of with their previous offering Anarchy Online. Funcom expanded its development team to include various new staff, many of which had a previous fanaticism for the Conan series. During the development period Funcom regularly released clips from their development team and the progress being made with the game.

Current online PC games are often questioned for being not matching gameplay to the themes present. Toning down the blood and gore for more consistent appeal is not something that can be said about Age of Conan.

Age of Conan is not a fairytale land in which evil is destroyed, Age of Conan is different. Age of Conan is an obscure world in which good and evil must be challenged and actions that must be taken prove mentally challenging. Hyboria is worlds apart from games such as World of Warcraft and EverQuest.

Little has been mentioned about the Hyborian economy or trading system, just that currency used will be Gold. Though the game's creator has prior knowledge of ingame economies with Anarchy Online, this could prove the biggest challenge for their latest title.

This game could be one of the first major MMORPG titles to go multi-platform, with release planned for at least one major video game console. Age of Conan is truly a game for the future and one that will be watched closely by the entire industry.
